Hanoi - Despite taking an early lead, a lapse in defensive concentration late in the first half forced Hanoi FC into a 1-1 draw with Ha Tinh in the fifth round of the 2024-2025 V-League.
The October 27 clash at Hang Day Stadium unfolded under blustery, rainy conditions, which made for a chilly evening. While Ha Tinh fielded an unchanged lineup from Round 4, Hanoi FC introduced center-back Dao Van Nam in place of Nguyen Thanh Chung. Foreign forwards Joao Pedro remained on the bench, while Chidi Augustine was omitted from the squad.
Hanoi took control from the opening whistle, channeling most of their attacks down the left wing. Their breakthrough came early, as team captain Nguyen Van Quyet expertly delivered a short corner outside the penalty box in the 14th minute. This setup allowed Nguyen Hai Long to unleash a crisp volley into the right corner of the net, securing an early lead.

Chances were few and far between following this goal. The next major moment came in the 33rd minute when a left-wing cross led to confusion between Dao Van Nam and Pham Tuan Hai, who failed to clear the ball effectively. This mishap allowed Mbo Noel to gain control in the penalty box, only to be impacted from behind by goalkeeper Pham Van Hoang. Referee Hoang Thanh Binh took eight minutes to consult VAR and review the footage before ruling out a penalty due to a handball by the Ha Tinh forward.
The VAR review added nine minutes to the first half. Just when it seemed Hanoi would head into the break with an advantage, their defense faltered. Hanoi’s backline left Mbo Noel unmarked, granting him ample space outside the box to control the ball and fire a powerful right-footed shot into the top right corner, leveling the score at 1-1.

Ha Tinh gained momentum in the second half, displaying impressive passing sequences. One of these efforts ended with Tran Dinh Tien narrowly missing the left post in the 53rd minute. Hanoi nearly conceded again in the 78th minute, following a lapse in possession that allowed Geovane Magno to curl a shot from the edge of the box, striking the left post.
Fatigue set in as Hanoi struggled to maintain pace, with Van Quyet and Do Hung Dung subbed off in the 63rd minute. Hanoi’s best opportunity to clinch victory came in the 88th minute, as substitute Dau Van Toan provided a well-timed cross from the left into the six-yard box. Pham Tuan Hai expertly controlled the ball, but his close-range finish sailed over the crossbar, closing the match in a deadlock.
This result saw Hanoi slip to fifth in the LPBank V-League 2024-2025 standings with eight points, while Ha Tinh climbed to fourth with nine points, remaining undefeated alongside HAGL. In the previous round, Hanoi was also held to a 1-1 draw by Hanoi Police FC.
Elsewhere on Sunday night, Binh Dinh hosted SLNA at Quy Nhon Stadium. The visiting side twice took the lead through Nguyen Quang Vinh in the 47th minute and Michael Olaha in the 68th. However, the home team managed to equalize twice, with goals from Tran Trong Hieu and Alisson Farias in the 50th and 81st minutes, respectively.
